(1) PERRY VS. (4) JEFFERSON

What: Division II district semifinal When: 4:30 p.m., May 17 Where: Jefferson Area Girls Softball Complex, 250 N. Poplar St., Jefferson Perry’s path: Def. Edgewood, 4-3 Jefferson’s path: Def. Geneva, 12-2 On deck: The winner advances to the district final at 4:30 p.m. May 18 to play (2) NDCL or (3) Lake Catholic.

For the record: When these teams met in early April, Perry swept the Saturday doubleheader, 10-3 and 9-2 . ... The Pirates’ only loss this season is to North. Olivia Moon not only has a 0.37 ERA and 106 strikeouts on the mound, but she

also leads Perry in hitting with a .588 average. There’s plenty of production in the lineup with Emalee Sines, Savannah Medlen, Taylor Hradek and Elena Ciolli also batting north of .400 . ... Jefferson had heavy graduation losses from two straight district championship teams. Freshman Brenna Hagerdon has developed into a dangerous power hitter. Freshman Sheridon Wilber is a good developing pitcher. She and Hagerdon each have four home runs. Captain Maggie Moyer is a seasoned leader.

Kampf’s pick: Perry

(2) NDCL VS. (3) LAKE CATHOLIC

What: Division II district semifinal When: 4:30 p.m., May 17 Where: Jefferson Area Girls Softball Complex, 250 N. Poplar St., Jefferson NDCL’s path: Def. Harvey, 23-2 Lake Catholic’s path: def. West Geauga, 5-1 On deck: The winner advances

to the district final at 4:30 p.m. May 18 to play (1) Perry or (4) Jefferson.

For the record: The North Coast League rivals split the season series, with Lake Catholic winning 10-0 and NDCL winning 10-1 . ... The Cougars are led by the bats of Amanda Maurer (.425) and Nicole Bush (.417). Jess Chebra is Lake’s primary starting pitcher . ... NDCL was district runner-up to Jefferson last year and is a rather young team. With Maura Delaney (shoulder) out, Emma Maestle has pitched very well this year. She relies more on defense behind her than strikeouts. Hannah Simon (.500), Halle Wedler (.474) and Kayla Martin (.395) are the team’s leading hitters.

Kampf’s pick: NDCL

(3) MADISON VS. (4) CHARDON

What: Division I district final When: 4:30 p.m., May 17 Where: Mentor Chardon’s path: Def. North, 10-2; def. Mayfield 5-4

Madison’s path: Def. Riverside, 11-10; def. Mentor, 5-2

On deck: The winner advances to the University of Akron Regional at 2 p.m. on May 24 to play the winner of the Massillon Regional.

For the record: This is a rematch of a regular-season game in which Madison defeated Chardon, 5-1, in Western Reserve Conference play . .... Chardon got some very good timely hitting in a 5-4 win over Mayfield in its semifinal win, with four hits in the seventh-inning rally. Kayla Preziuso (.500), Olivia Organiscak (.464) and Lexi Leggett (.378) are the team’s leading hitters. The key for the Hilltoppers will be controlling Madison’s powerful offense, which can hit the ball from 1-through-9 in the order. Jordan Pasalaqua had two hits and three RBI to lead the team in a win over Mentor, but this team can hit for average or for power throughout the lineup. Expect junior Alyssa Rose to get the pitching nod.

Kampf’s pick: Madison
