Gratitude expressed
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the members of Mentor Community Cats for organizing and facilitating a meeting recently to allow people to become familiar with the new feral cat ordinance that the city of Mentor recently implemented.
In this forum, members of MCC presented education, resources, and registration opportunities (in order to be in compliance with the ordinance) to those in attendance who are concerned about and/or give care to feral cats in their neighborhoods.
The presentation was very thorough and informative in all regards.
I also appreciated the fact that some members of Mentor City Council were available to answer questions as they pertained to the ordinance and there seems to be a real collaborative effort being put forth to address the situation.
It is, however, ultimately in the hands of responsible pet owners and those who care for the humane treatment of these animals for the success of a trap-neuter-release program, which have been found to be highly effective in the control of feral cat colonies.
It is my hope that people will use the education and resources that are available to them to help humanely care for those cats who, at some point in their feline family tree, were left behind by their original human stewards. Karen Podojil Mentor
