The General Elijah Hill Wadsworth Chapter of United States Daughters of the War of 1812 will gather to honor American Patriot Benjamin Mastick Sr.

Mastick, who served as a general in the War of 1812, is buried at Claridon Center Cemetery, 13960 Mayfield Road, where the Daughters of the War of 1812 will gather June 3 to mark his grave.

The ceremony, which begins at noon, will be attended by members of Wadsworth chapter, along with Vice-President-National Mary Webster Glenn, Susan Franks Leininger, recording secretary-national, and various Ohio Society U.S.D. 1812 state officers and chapter presidents. The Chardon VFW Post 6519 Color Guard, which will carry the flag from the War of 1812, will present a 21-gun salute.

U.S. Rep. David Joyce, RRussell Township, will issue a proclamation and the Chardon Post will present a full Honor guard and play taps.

Descendents of Mastick will be arriving from California to attend the event.

According to a media release issued by the Wadsworth Chapter, Mastick, who enlisted at the age of 15 was not only a patriot of the War of 1812, but also of the American Revolution.

According to Terry Puffer Ray, treasurer of the Wadsworth Chapter, the event is important, because it recognizes a patriot who served during what is known as the forgotten war and America’s second revolution.

“This is important for me, because we should never forget our second revolution when the British reinvaded and burnt the White House,” Ray said.
