Madison Garden Club fulfills project
Madison Garden Club continues to fulfill one of its objectives to encourage civic planting and beautification.
Members of the Beautification committee, Nila Rintatalo and Dolly Haden, set out in September 2016 to locate a new location and design a permanent display for placement of attractive flower pots. Membership voted to support and to spend $1,000 for these new pots.
Local Madison Village business, Arcadia Glass House worked with the club on purchasing these large ceramic pots. The pots were made in Atlanta, Georgia, and Arcadia brought them to Madison. Preparation of these large pots to withstand Northeast Ohio’s winters required special attention.
The club is grateful for the cooperation of Andover Bank in Madison and the continued support of Manager Jamie Lutz for accepting the club’s vision of placement of these permanent flower pots on its property. The priorities required a green space, highly visible area, well lit at night and set back from traffic on Route 20.
Once the criteria was addressed, the club began to plan for the placement of these three huge pots. This is where the outstanding donated service from Greg and Amy Barnes of Barnes Earth and Turf Excavating and Landscaping literally took over for implementation of this display, according to the club. The Beautification project finally gained momentum. Under the guidance of these landscapers, they cleared a circular area of sod, donated and placed 3 yards of stones, put in place cement bases for each flower pot, along with the placement of the three huge pots which they hand-filled with stones and topsoil. Landscapers Jennifer Barrette and Pat Kennedy worked tirelessly for a half day so that this community project would become a reality.
The maintenance for this display requires club members to water daily and fertilize once a week for continued growth and new blooms.
