Route 306 traffic detoured again
Artery to reopen by end of June
It may feel a bit like déjà vu this month for motorists who frequent Route 306 in south Mentor.
It may feel a bit like déjà vu this month for motorists who frequent Route 306 in south Mentor.
Drivers are being detoured between routes 84 and 20 for construction similar to last summer, when a major resurfacing project on 306 got underway.
However, this reroute has to do with sidewalk improvements and will be short-lived.
A&J Cement of Euclid — awarded the $350,000 project in February — set up the northbound detour June 19, and it is scheduled to run through June 30. Southbound traffic will be maintained.
“Sidewalk on both sides of State Route 306 will be constructed during this period,” Mentor Engineer Dave Swiger said.
“We expect the southbound traffic to be shifted to the east side of the road when sidewalk construction is performed on the west side of State Route 306.”
The detour takes traffic east on Route 84 to Plaza Boulevard, to Route 20 to 306.
“This work is being done as part of our annual Sidewalk Repair and Pedestrian Safety Program,” Swiger said. “For the most part, the contractor is replacing deficient sidewalk in the zone that hasn’t been replaced by property owners since being inspected. Handicap-accessible ramps are also being upgraded in the zone, as necessary.”
Last year’s project ran the entire length of Route 306 and cost about $3 million to provide full- and partial-depth pavement repairs, curb repairs and curb ramp replacement, as well as paving.
The first phase came with the same detour from Route 84 to Route 20.
That project was completed last fall.
