Former Packers RB Ahman Green charged with child abuse

-

Former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green has been charged with felony child abuse after his 15-year-old daughter told police he punched her in the face.

Green, 40, is also charged with disorderly conduct in the incident late Sunday in the Green Bay suburb of Ledgeview. According to a criminal complaint, Green’s daughter told police that he struck her in the face in a dispute over getting her to do the dishes. Green allegedly told sheriff’s deputies he hit his daughter with an open hand.

Court records don’t list a defense attorney. Lammi Sports Management, which has handled Green’s appearances, had no immediate comment.

Green was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2014. He is the team’s all-time leading rusher and a four-time Pro Bowl pick.

Track and field

BOLT TO COMPETE IN FINAL GOLDEN SPIKE RACE » Usain Bolt is curious as to who will replace him as the world’s fastest man.

He’s confident nobody will know at his last major race, at the world athletics championships in August in London.

Bolt has dominated the sprints for nine years, and won all of the major titles there are to be won. But knowing he’ll be finished racing in less than two months makes everything bittersweet.

He’s competing in his ninth and last Golden Spike on June 28, running the 100 meters in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava.

He likes the Golden Spike because it’s a fast track, and the stands are always packed, no matter if it’s rainy or cold.

The only other race he’s scheduled before the worlds is the Diamond League meet in Monaco on July 21. He’s undecided about other races.

He won’t leave athletics after his last race. He intends to remain part of his racing group in Jamaica.

Tennis

MCENROE DOUBTS WILLIAMS AS ‘BEST EVER’» John McEnroe says Serena Williams would be “like 700” in the world tennis rankings if she played on the men’s tour.

McEnroe, speaking to NPR about his memoir “But Seriously,” says Williams is the best female player ever, “no question.” But when asked about her being the best ever, without gender qualifiers, McEnroe was clear that he didn’t think so.

McEnroe says “if she played the men’s circuit she’d be like 700 in the world.”

The former tennis bad boy added that he thought Williams could beat some male players, “but if she had to just play the circuit — the men’s circuit — that would be an entirely different story.”

McEnroe won seven Grand Slam titles in his career. Williams has won 23.
