Lorain School Board hired Nancy Lecorchick at Lorain High School at a salary of $83,472.

Riverside High School Assistant Principal Nancy Lecorchick has been hired for that position in the Lorain City Schools District.

Lorain School Board on June 26 hired Lecorchick at a salary of $83,472.

Lecorchick starts Aug. 1 with a two-year contract, according to the meeting agenda.

Lecorchick told the school board she has been an educator for 23 years. The first five years, she taught school in Cleveland, then moved to Cuyahoga Heights Schools for 15 years, outside the city of Valley View.

Lecorchick said she taught special education for students predominantly with emotional disabilities.

“I decided to take a leap and started administration,” she said. “I was at Riverside, which is right outside of Painesville, which is like Erie, Pa., which is a really far drive.

“I started looking to come back to the west side. And when I started the interview process in Lorain, it felt absolutely like home the second I walked in. It has such a great feel. It has such a good faculty, such a good community. And I laughed a lot during an interview which isn’t something you usually do.”

This summer, Lecorchick said she plans to fly to Ecuador for three weeks for a long hike, then a visit to Galapagos.

Previously, she said, she has hiked across Spain, starting in France and walking to the Atlantic Ocean.

She said she also speaks Spanish.

“Thank you so much for this opportunity,” Lecorchick said.
