Alvin M. Sabroff beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r and friend passed away at the age of 89 on July 2, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Alvin was admired for his intellect, kindness, and charming and warm persona. He was a cherished friend to many and he profoundly touched all those who knew him. Born on October 3, 1927 in Canton, OH, Alvin was the second son of the late Louis and Sonya (Resnick) Sabroff, and the brother of the late William Sabroff. Alvin lived in tor, OH for 35 years where he raised his family and enjoyed wonderful friends and his community.

He graduated from Ohio State University in 1952 with a BS in Chemical Engineerin­g and in 1956 with a Master of ence. Alvin began his profession­al career (nearly 18 years) at Battelle Institute in Columbus OH, where he led a renowned research laboratory that developed new processes of metal extrusion for the aerospace and automotive industries. From there he formed Microwire Corp. in Allentown, PA, a pany he co-founded that specialize­d in copper wire, and tinued his career at Brewer-Titchener in Cortland, NY where he was the Technical Director. He returned to Ohio in 1978 to work for Eaton Corporatio­n at the corporate research center in Willoughby Hills where he spent 20 years as the Director of Advanced Process Developmen­t.

Following his retirement from Eaton at the age of 70, he co-founded Metalworks Consulting Group which allowed him to apply his 40 plus years of expertise in the field of turing and metallurgi­cal engineerin­g. Alvin was the recipient of 10 United States Patents on manufactur­ing processes and author of the book Forging Materials and Practices. Alvin was a strong advocate of numerous collaborat­ive programs featuring industry/government/university relationsh­ips in the field of manufactur­ing engineerin­g and was active with the OSU Research Foundation, Cleveland Advanced turing Program (CAMP), AMC at Cleveland State University and the National Science Foundation.

Alvin was a man of many interests. He was an avid golfer and phenomenal bridge player; he loved to read; enjoyed traveling with his wife; and loved opera and classical music. He was an amazing Scrabble player, and a lifelong OSU Buckeye football fan.

Alvin married June Levitz Sabroff in 1958 and they spent 52 loving years together until her passing in 2011.

He is survived by his three children, Grant (Deborah) broff of Beachwood, Julie Sabroff Willoughby (William) of Cleveland Heights and Katherine Sabroff (Melvin Muller) of Yonkers, N.Y.; and five beautiful grandchild­ren, Matthew, Jacob, William, Samuel and Sophia, whom he deeply loved.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 10:00 am at The Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S. Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights.

Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest by June’s side. Family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. William Willoughby, 2481 ford Road, Cleveland Heights, OH on Wed., July 2:005th, 4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm, and Thurs. July 6th, 3:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.
