Jefferson sticking with Cavaliers

-

Richard Jefferson isn’t messing with any retirement talk this summer.

After saying he would stop playing after the Cavaliers won the NBA title in 2016 and changing his mind, Jefferson said Wednesday that he will be back with Cleveland next season — his 17th as a pro.

The 37-year-old announced his plans on an episode of his “Road Trippin”’ podcast.

Jefferson, who had contemplated quitting, has one guaranteed season left on his contract worth $2.5 million. He averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 79 games for the Cavs, serving mostly as a backup for LeBron James.

YOUNG TO SIGN WITH WARRIORS » Veteran guard Nick Young is getting a new start with Golden State, agreeing to a $5.2 million, oneyear contract Wednesday with the champion Warriors.

Young’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the deal in a message to The Associated Press.

The 32-year-old Young last month declined the player option in his contract for next season with the Los Angeles Lakers that would have paid him more than $5.6 million, becoming a free agent.

JUDGE TIES DIMAGGIO’S ROOKIE HOME RUN RECORD » Aaron Judge has tied Joe DiMaggio’s Yankees record for home runs by a rookie.

Judge hit a two-run drive into the Yankees’ bullpen in right-center in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game against Toronto. It was his major league-leading 29th home run of the season.

DiMaggio set the Yankees rookie mark in 1936. Judge reached it in New York’s 83rd game of the season.

The only other rookies to hit 29 homers before the All-Star break were Mark McGwire in 1987 (33) and Jose Abreu in 2014 (29).

MCDAVID STICKS WITH OILERS » The Oilers have signed star captain Connor McDavid to an eightyear, $100 million deal.

McDavid led the NHL in scoring with 100 points last season, en route to winning the Hart Trophy as league MVP.

Drafted first overall by the Oilers in 2015, the 20-year-old McDavid has been the catalyst of Edmonton’s transformation from league bottom dweller to contender.

The deal has an average annual value of $12.5 million.
