Farmpark decided to expand its second FarmFest event to include ribs, beer and more live music.

Already wildly popular last year when it debuted, Farmpark decided to expand its second FarmFest event to include ribs, beer and more live music, three elements most anyone can support, presumably.

This year’s FarmFest also will feature Farmpark kids’ activities, including barrel train rides, pedal tractors, fishing, cornhole, Ohio Disc Dogs demonstrations, Showman’s Circle play area and the Touch a Tractor area. Craft vendors and wine and beer from Chalet Debonne Vineyards and Double Wing Brewery, respectively, are available for purchase 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and noon to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Local food vendors will serve barbecue and ribs. Admission to FarmFest is free.

On July 8, attendees can enjoy fishing, a competition featuring the Ohio Disc Dogs and performances by the Chardon Polka Band and DJ Jeremy James. Sumrada also will perform.

All of Farmpark’s regular activities also will be available throughout the day.

“The Outdoor Education Department will also do catch-and-release fishing during the day on Saturday,” said Farmpark Event Manager Andy McGovern. “Penitentiary Glen’s Wildlife Center will present animals here, too.

“This year is different since we’ve expanded it, but it’s still a celebration of Lake County and what farming is all about, as we went out to make sure we have local popular bands and all local food. The real root of FarmFest is a birthday party, stemming from our 25th anniversary, and going back further, the Cleveland Foundation’s 100th birthday.”

Next year, Farmpark plans to expand the festival again with more craft vendors.

“We are excited about this year,” McGovern said. “There is a positive, wonderful family feel to this event. Good times continue to be had by all and that’s why this has grown into what it’s become today. We have a lot happening. In the last five years, we’ve added so many more features, including Showman’s Circle Playground.

“If you haven’t been to Farmpark since you were a kid or have never been, this is the weekend to go. We have something for everyone, from the little ones to the grandparents.”

Farmpark is located at 8800 Euclid Chardon Road. Call 440-256-2122 or visit www.lakemetroparks.com for more information.
