Groups selling tickets for annual duck race fundraiser

- Staff report

Tickets are on sale now for the annual rubber-duck race fundraiser presented by the alumni associations of Riverside and Harvey high schools.

The Hardy Animal Nutrition Grand Riv-Har Duck Race will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Helen Hazen Wyman Park, 6101 Painesville Warren Road in Concord Township. The 16th annual race is a joint effort of alumni and friends of the two schools to raise money to fund annual scholarships, programs, projects and activities for the alumni associations and schools, a news release stated.

Rubber ducks will be launched into a creek at the park to float their way to the finish line. Each duck is imprinted with a number corresponding to the numbers on tickets now being sold for $5 each. The first duck to cross the finish line will win $500 for the ticket holder, the news release stated. Additional prizes will be awarded to other front-running ducks.

While the race doesn’t take place until September, there are a few things people can do to enter ducks into the fray and support the race in other ways.

Tickets can be purchased by calling Riverside’s Don Pomfrey at 440-352-8443 or Harvey’s Ron Balogh at 440352-1339. In addition, tickets will be sold at the Duck Race Booth at the Painesville Party in the Park from July 14 through 16.
