The News Herald (Willoughby, OH)
Miracle League deserves support
Lake County, there is something special happening, and I hope all of us will be part of it. It is easy to get caught up in the gloom and doom of the negative news and information we process on a daily basis. But we should not miss the opportunity to champion the cause of The Miracle League of Lake County.
This caring group of people is committed to building a baseball field and playground where children with disabilities can come to play baseball and play on a playground like other kids do every day. It is a chance for them to be free and creative, to use their imagination and be kids rather than being left to watch on the sidelines.
Some of my best moments as mayor of Willowick have been events like the Broadmoor Bobcats vs. area coaches basketball game, and judging a chili contest at Deepwood Center. I revel in the joy I see displayed at events like these and think how beneficial it will be to have a special place for all to participate and play, no matter what disability may have traditionally prevented them from doing so in the past. This is a great thing for Lake County and Northeast Ohio.
We are fortunate to have many great sponsors already: Lake County commissioners, Lake Health, the city of Eastlake, CT Consultants, AECOM, Medical Mutual, Captains Charities, the Carfagna family, the Murphy family, Lubrizol and many individuals who have donated. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this amazing place.
I am honored to be able to help make this dream become a reality. I participated in a lemon squeezing contest at Chick-fil-A in Willoughby on March 29 and, due to circumstances beyond my control, lost to Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley by a narrow margin. I am challenging Mayor Morley to a rematch at a Lake County Captains game in the near future. Watch for an announcement, and come cheer us on. Please consider supporting and taking part in the Miracle League of Lake County.
