Nick Gomez

After a brief illness, Nick Gomez, 87, of Mentor-on-the-Lake for the past 47 years formerly of Cleveland, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife Mary Jane of 63 years on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. He was born September 10, 1929, in Cleveland. Nick was a motor tester for Reliance Electric and Engineering (Rockwell) for 30 years until his retirement in 1993. He had also volunteered his time as a fireman for Mentoron-the-Lake.

As a young man, Nick always dreamed of having a home and family. He was a patriotic, old-fashioned man, with high standards and morals. He was a good provider and hard worker. His home was open to all and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a devoted family man and was a shining example of goodness and God’s love. Survivors include his wife Mary Jane Gomez; daughters, Loretta “Laurie” (Tom) Shirk, and Jeanette (Joe) GomezMervar; grandchildren, Daniel (Adriana Cohen) Shirk, Kristen Shirk and Amy (Justin) Haverkamp; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Keira, Micaela, Kelsey and Kemper; great-greatgranddaughter Breeze; siblings, Lee Gomez, Carmela Fulmer, Virginia Bellitto, Andrew Gomez, Anthony “Tony” Gomez; and sister-in-law Jane Gomez.

Preceding Nick in death are his parents, Lucio and Maria (Romo) Gomez; brothers, Joseph, Julian and Leonard (Mary) Gomez; brothers-in-law, David Fulmer and Sam Bellitto; and sister-in-law, Lia Gomez.

The family will receive friends 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. The Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, OH 44060. Please meet at the church. Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
