Garfield hosting outdoor concerts

James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor has announced two upcoming outdoor concerts.

The first will be at 2 p.m. July 29, as the site will welcome the Lake Effect Concert Band, part of the Snowbelt Musical Arts Associatio­n in Chardon. The band is familiar with many of the marches and patriotic songs of the last 130 years, including many that President Garfield knew and enjoyed, according to a news release.

The second concert will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 6 and will feature the Lakeland Civic Band of Lakeland Community College. It is composed of Lakeland students, high school players, school music teachers, directors and community musicians.

Both concerts are free of charge and will be held outdoors on the lawn behind the Garfield home. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, drinking water, sunscreen and anything else needed for personal comfort. Picnic baskets are welcomed; alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
