Police searching for homicide suspect
Euclid police were still searching July 28 for the person responsible for the death of a 22-year-old city resident.
Quenton Copes was shot and killed around 7:30 p.m. July 27 at the Georgetown of the Highlands residential complex on Richmond Square in Euclid, said police Lt. Mitchell Houser.
“No arrest has been made, and we’re asking the public for help,” Houser said.
Copes was transported from the Richmond Heights Fire Station to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Shortly after the shooting, two firefighters discovered a pickup truck with two young men inside at the front apron of the Richmond Road fire station, Richmond Heights Fire Chief Marc Neumann said.
“We started receiving 911 calls for a car fire in front of the fire station. We were out at another call at the same time,” the chief said. “The two firefighters who were still at the station saw steam coming out of the truck’s engine compartment from the radiator. The radiator had been pierced by some type of projectile. The passenger in the truck had multiple gunshot wounds, and was in critical condition. The firefighters began advanced life support.
“We learned that the shooting occurred in the city of Euclid and they drove here. I don’t know why they drove to the fire department, but it is not that unusual in these types of cases.”
Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call the Euclid Police Department detective bureau at 216-289-8505.
