Those traveling through downtown Painesville will soon see the new Lake County administration building start to rise from the ground, county Administrator Jason Boyd said.

The Lake County commissioners have approved contracts with Platform Construction and Industrial First for concrete and steel work, respectively, for the new building.

Mentor-based Platform Construction submitted the lowest of three bids for the construction work, coming in at

$3,196,350. Boyd said the company has done work on FirstEnergy Stadium and Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Cleveland-based Industrial First submitted the lowest of six bids for the steel work, coming in at $1,294,000.

The Guaranteed Maximum Price for this phase of the project is $6,196,908, which includes construction management at-risk AMHigley’s “stage services (staff), allowances (contingency) and general condition costs for the balance of the project (jobsite trailer, dumpster, bonds, etc.)”

Work on this phase is slated to begin in August and is projected to be completed in March 2018.

Boyd said they are targeting $30 million for the total cost of the building project.

The new building will

centralize some of the county departments currently scattered throughout the area such as the administrative offices of the Engineer’s Office. Other departments on the move include the Department of Utilities, Stormwater Management.

The total scale of the

project has been reigned in since new Lake County Commissioners Jerry Cirino and John Hamercheck took office in January.

Hamercheck said at a commissioners meeting in May that the project was “fast-exceeding $43 million” and is now in the $30 million range. Changes included tamping down the renovations to the existing administration building at 105 Main St.

The new administration building is being built at adjacent 85 N. Park Place, which was the former home the Painesville Senior Center. That structure—the Dorthy Allen Building—was demolished in June.
