State Rep. John Rogers selected for Council of State Government­s fellowship

State Rep. John Rogers, D-Mentor-on-the-Lake, has been selected for the Council of State Government­s’ Henry Toll Fellowship program.

Rogers is one of 48 leaders selected from 32 countries, Puerto Rico and Guam. The leaders are selected from all three branches of state government.

The Toll Fellowship is named after CSG founder Henry Wolcott Toll. The intensive, six-day, five-night “intellectu­al boot camp” will be Aug. 25-30 in Lexington, Kentucky. The fellowship has been held for more than 30 years.

“I look forward to participat­ing in the Toll Fellowship and developing new ideas and improved policies with my fellow public servants,” Rogers said in a statement. “The improved interactiv­e skills or tools I hope to walk away with from this intensive training program will help me to better serve the residents of the 60th House District as well as all of the citizens of Ohio.”

CSG stated that the program’s agenda features sessions “designed to stimulate personal assessment and growth, while providing networking and relationsh­ip-building opportunit­ies.”

“Each year’s program is unique, but previous programs have included sessions on leadership personalit­y assessment, media training, crisis management, appreciati­ve inquiry and adaptive leadership,” CSG stated in a news release.

Toll Fellows alumni include Cheri Beasley, associate justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court; Oregon Gov. Kate Brown; U.S. Rep. John Carney, a former Delaware lieutenant governor; Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey; Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap; Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett; Delaware Gov. Jack Markell; Anne McKeig, associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court; Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin; Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill; Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate; U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita, a former Indiana secretary of state; former U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis; and Rhonda Wood, associate justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court.

“The Council of State Government­s’ Henry Toll Fellowship program is a nationally recognized leadership developmen­t program for state government officials,” Rogers said in his statement. “The selection process is very competitiv­e and being invited to participat­e is a rare opportunit­y and honor.”

Rogers represents Eastlake, Fairport Harbor, Grand River, Lakeline, Mentor Ward 4, Mentor-on-theLake, Painesvill­e, Painesvill­e Township Precinct J and part of Precinct D, Timberlake, Wickliffe, Willoughby and Willowick.
