Celebrate August full moon with wine atop the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse

- Local Flavors Janet Podolak

Wine, cheese and light hors d’oeuvres will help celebrate the rising of the August full moon on Aug. 7 at the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse and Marine Museum.

The event, set for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., also will provide great views of that evening’s sunset. Proceeds will go toward the preservation of the tower. Built in 1871 to replace an even earlier lighthouse, its observation platform is reached by 69 steps up an interior spiral staircase.

Reservations, at $15 per person, are needed because the group is limited to 24 and a climb of the lighthouse is included. RSVP by email to keeper@fairportharborlighthouse.org or leave a message when you call 440-3544825.

Wine tasting

A sit-down Dog Days of Summer wine tasting with snacks prepared by the Molinari’s kitchen begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at the restaurant, 8900 Mentor Ave.

Six wines will be poured by Jerry Danalchek of Ohio-based Vintage Wines. Tickets, at $30, are required in advance. Call 440-974-2750.
