Trump’s swamp will drown us all

The United States of America, the beacon of light, truth and honest government in the world, doing their business of writing a health care bill in secret, with only a small group of Republican senators involved. The whole of the Senate, especially the Democrats, locked out.

There were no hearings and no floor discussions leading up to the completed bill being unveiled. The Democrats passed their health care bill in 2009 without one Republican vote. However, they had hearings, bringing in doctors, hospital personnel and others, and received Republican amendments.

Imagine today, the GOP bill that was written in secret, which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said would increase the number of people without health insurance by 22 million by 2026. The CBO also estimated that the GOP bill would lead to a reduction in spending on Medicaid of more than $800 billion over a decade. The bill, from what I saw, would have put children, sick elderly, the disabled and poor mothers at risk to give insurance CEOs and the wealthiest among us a large tax cuts.

I am an independent and hate what both parties have done to our republic. They have both allowed “Big Money” to take priority over their constituents, and the good of our country.

We are on the abyss of our country’s destruction and falling into an authoritarian government.

We are losing freedoms, and our government is not holding to decades of values laid down by our forefathers. We must wake up or we will find ourselves unable to repair and save our republic.

Too many of the men and women in office today — local, state and federal — are coming from the wealthiest and most fortunate. They have little knowledge of how hard it is to make ends meet, give our kids a good education, buy a home, save for retirement and pay for decent health care.

President Trump is still spending time in campaign mode. Going before pre-teens and teens at the Boy Scout Jamboree, instead of talking about service to country and their fellow man, he propagandized his campaign speech to try and manipulate those young minds. Where were the adults to stop this garbage?

I was a Cub Scout den mother and never in my life have I ever seen a president do this and say those things to our children.

He is making our country the swamp, he was supposed to drain.
