Trubisky picks James over Jordan in interview

Had he been on a Cleveland radio show, Mitchell Trubisky would have been in the clear.

He wasn’t. Trubisky lives in Chicago, the land of Michael Jordan, widely considered the greatest basketball player of all time. Just not by Trubisky. For some in the Chicago area, his Aug. 9 comments on a radio show caused a bit of a stir.

One thing is for sure: Trubisky sticks to his roots.

The Bears rookie quarterback and Mentor graduate was interviewed on Chicago radio station WSCRAM 670, and was asked to name who he thought was the greatest basketball player of all time. He picked the Cavaliers’ LeBron James over Jordan.

“Can I say that? I think you’re the first person to ask me that,” Trubisky told the show’s host, Danny Parsons. “I’m from Ohio. It’s kind of bias. I grew up watching LeBron. That’s really all I know.”

From there, Trubisky, a big basketball fan and former player for Mentor’s varsity team, did his best to balance his statement

“I didn’t get to see (Michael) Jordan in person. I did go to the same school (North Carolina) as him, so that’s kind of where we get wishy-washy there. I’m a big fan of both. I appreciate greatness. I’m not one to like sit there and sit back and compare them all day like everyone else does on TV and stuff, but they’re both great players and there’s an argument for both sides — stats, rings, whatever you want to do about it. But I just hope to meet them someday. They’re both the greatest at what they do.”
