First 3-on-3 Streetball tournament set
The Painesville Recreation Division is gearing up for the first 3-on-3 Streetball Classic on Aug. 26.
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. in the Lake County Department of Job and Family Services parking lot at 177 Main St.
“I’ve been working with the recreation division to come up with new ideas for family events,” said Painesville Recreation and Public Lands Director Michelle LaPuma. “Basketball is very popular, so we contacted the varsity coaches at Harvey High School.”
She said they began planning the basketball tournament last year.
Proceeds from this event will be used to support the City of Painesville Recreation Department and Harvey High School basketball program.
Teams are required to register. Players must be 8 years old or older to participate. Each team must have a minimum of three players with a maximum of four players on their roster.
The registration deadline has been extended to the morning of the event, LaPuma said.
The fee for a three-person youth team, ages 8 to 17, is $75. For three adults, 18 years and older, the fee to participate is $120. The fourth player is free for both teams.
Teams are guaranteed to play at least two games and everyone will receive a t-shirt.
Complete rules and registration is available at painesville.com.
Awards will be given to the top team in each age divisions. There will be bleachers and spectators are welcomed while concessions will also be available.
“Hopefully this event will grow and we will get a good response,” she said. “We’re really excited about it.”
