Motorcycle run to benefit local transplant patient
Each year, volunteers come together to hold a motorcycle run in memory of Mike Friedel, a local firefighter, hero and organ donor who died in 2012.
The proceeds of this bike run go to the National Foundation for Transplants to help offset the transplant related expenses of a local patient.
This year, NFT will be using the funds to assist Tammy Adkins of Jefferson.
In 2015, Adkins was diagnosed with Goodpasture syndrome, resulting in endstage kidney failure, according to the release. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical. While awaiting her transplant, Adkins, 47, endures regular dialysis treatments, five days a week, which leave her completely exhausted.
“What an amazing way to honor the memory of a local hero,” said NFT fundraising consultant Claire Prince in the release . “We at NFT feel so privileged to be working with this amazing group of volunteers. The funds that they raise provide lifesaving care and treatment to local transplant patients.”
Volunteers are holding the fifth annual Mike Friedel Memorial Bike Run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 26.
The event will begin at Mr. Lee’s, 3564 South Ridge Road in Perry, and will cost $15 per rider to enter. This is a family event, and no motorcycle is required to participate. The price for non-riders to attend is $5.
Food is included in the admission price, and the event will include a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction and music by “The InCahootz Band.” The first 100 people to purchase tickets will receive a free ride patch.
