Tony Fisher Award watch list

The Tony Fisher Award goes to the player of the year for The News-Herald area each season. This year’s award, which is named after the 1997 Ohio Mr. Football recipient from Euclid who went on to play at Notre Dame and in the NFL, will be presented on Nov. 20, in a special show at Hooley House in Mentor. Here are some names to keep an eye on heading into the season. Keep in mind that the Fisher Watch List is fluid and can change week-to-week. Just because a player isn’t on this list right now doesn’t mean he can’t put himself in contention once the season starts. Stay tuned. (In alphabetic­al order)

In his junior year, he threw for 2,651 yards and 24 touchdowns. With the stellar weapons around him again, could he top that? Don’t bet against him.

University of Cincinnati recruit is a lockdown corner, returned six punts for touchdowns as a junior, and is now adding receiver duties. An allaround star.

As a junior quarterbac­k, he ran for 1,902 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. Add in his passing yards and return yards and he was near 2,500 yards total offense.

He lost some great receivers to graduation, but he threw for 2,152 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior.

He threw for 2,318 yards, ran for 1,340 yards and had 34 total touchdowns last year. By far the leading returner stat-wise this season. He was injured much of last year, but is primed for a monster year as the Rebels’ workhorse back.

He threw for 1,221 yards, ran for 592 yards and totaled 15 touchdowns last year. Consider him a lock to improve

He threw for 1,022 yards, ran for 412 yards and combined for 16 touchdowns. A heady leader who can put big yards and numbers up on the board.

He threw for 1,600-plus last year and also ran for 600-plus. He’s the key to the Rangers’ offense this
