Trubisky shines again in preseason

It was another solid performance by Mitchell Trubisky in his third preseason game with the Bears.

The Mentor graduate started the second half of Chicago’s 19-7 win Aug. 27 against Tennessee, and, save for a few mistakes during his second drive, put together another nice outing in about a quarter and a half.

Trubisky completed 10 of 15 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown pass. His passer rating was 115.4. He also rushed one time for 9 yards.

Trubisky has thrown a TD pass in each of Chicago’s three preseason games.

In the preseason, he’s completed 34 of 48 passes for 354 yards, three TD passes and no interceptions.

On Trubisky’s first drive, the Bears went three and out as the rookie misfired on his first two passes.

The second drive resulted in a few learning situations. The first was as he broke late from the huddle, and was forced to call a timeout to avoid a penalty. A Bears coach was heard yelling, “Go Mitchell go!”

On the next play, Trubisky stumbled out of the snap and fumbled before he handed off the ball. He recovered the ball.

On a second-and-15 play, he threw into double coverage and was nearly intercepted.

From that point, Trubisky turned it on. On the team’s next drive, he drove the Bears’ 75 yards in seven plays to pay dirt.

The big play was a 45yard TD pass to Tanner Gentry.

Trubisky completed all four of his passes on the drive for 68 yards.

Mike Glennon likely solidified his status as the Bears’ starter by throwing

for 134 yards and a TD on 11 of 18 passing against the Titans.

Adam Hoge, a Bears reporter for WGN Radio, tweeted John Fox said after the game he doesn’t expect the team’s QB depth chart to change.

If Glennon is the starter for Week 1, he will likely won’t play much Aug. 31 at home vs. the Browns in each team’s final preseason

game.

That will likely mean plenty of snaps for Trubisky against his hometown team.

Meanwhile, Browns coach Hue Jackson announced fellow rookie QB DeShone Kizer as the team’s starter.

Trubisky was drafted No. 2 overall, as the Browns opted for defensive end Myles Garrett at No. 1 overall.

The Bears traded up from the No. 3 spot to get Trubisky.

Said Jackson during an Aug. 28 teleconference when asked about the team’s interest in Trubisky on draft day.

“That is not worth talking about,” said Jackson. “Mitch is playing in Chicago, and I’m sure he is doing well there. We are happy with DeShone.”
