FH woman indicted for allegedly stealing ill man’s morphine
A Fairport Harbor woman accused of stealing a terminally ill man’s morphine in Eastlake has been charged in a three-count indictment.
Rachel Everett, 26, formerly of Mayfield Heights, was indicted this week in Lake County Common Pleas Court on a felony theft of drugs count.
She also was charged with possession of cocaine (less than 5 grams) and aggravated possession of drugs (carfentanil), both felonies.
A woman answered an ad July 11 to give aid to a terminally ill man. Everett was invited to the home after hospice workers dropped off medication and left for the day, Eastlake police said.
After an interview, Everett agreed to start work the next day and asked to be paid in advance because she needed groceries, according to reports.
The man’s wife reportedly left to withdraw money and later noticed her husband’s medication was missing. Everett was arrested based on information given and a vehicle registration.
After she was contacted and asked to return the morphine, police said they found her tossing an empty medicine bottle into the couple’s driveway.
Everett’s personal bond was revoked previously after she violated conditions of it.
Everett, who is being represented by the Lake County Public Defender’s Office, has not yet been arraigned. The charges carry a combined maximum punishment of up to 3 1/2 years in prison.
