Deepwood to hold 20th Annual ‘Mystery’ Run
The Deepwood Run Committee is hosting the 20th Annual Deepwood “Mystery” Run for motorcycles and other vehicles.
The run, which is being held in honor of one of the founding committee members, Bubba Smith, is scheduled for Sept. 30, with an Oct. 1 rain date.
Check-in time goes from 9 to 11 a.m. at 8121 Deepwood Blvd. in Mentor. The first group heads out at 10 a.m.
“This year we have chosen a ‘Mystery’ poker run that will include all vehicles,” said Lynnmarie Phillips, director of marketing for Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood. “The stops will be at landmarks and parks throughout Lake County rather than bars so participants can safely enjoy the ride. They will spend time discovering new parts of the county and then join the party ... where we will have food, music, raffles and more.”
The four locations to ride to are: the Lake County Historical Society in Painesville Township, the Boulevard of 500 Flags in Eastlake, Lakeshore Reservation in Perry and Broadmoor School in Mentor.
It is not an escorted ride, and participants will ride/drive at their own pace and meet at the final destination and after-party.
Tickets, which include mystery run activities throughout the day and entry into a cash drawing, are $20 and can be purchased through the Deepwood Foundation www.deepwoodfoundation.org or www.thedeepwoodrun.org.
Cash awards are $1,000 for first prize, $500 for second prize and $250 for third and fourth prizes. Winner need not be present to win.
The event also will include food and beverage vendors, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffles and entertainment.
An after-party will be held at the 306 Lounge and Mentor Eagles No. 3605 on Lake Shore Boulevard and Route 306 in Mentor.
The cash drawing and other prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m.
The purpose of the Deepwood Run is to raise funds for grants to help individuals with disabilities to improve their quality of life.
“These funds purchase necessary equipment like hearing aids, communication devices, dentures and wheelchairs when Medicaid or other insurances won’t,” Phillips said.
“Deepwood Run has given grants to individuals and families to pay for camps and therapies that allow the individuals to learn or maintain independent living, fine or gross motor and adaptive skills.’
Deepwood hosts two fundraisers a year: a pancake breakfast at Gunny Hall in Mentor during the spring and the run in summer or fall.
