With offense, defense and hustle, he’s helped us tremendously.”

Lindor and Bruce share a similar history in the tracks of their baseball career.

Both were highly prized high-school players — Lindor in Florida and Bruce in Texas.

Both were 18 years old when they were selected in the upper reaches of the MLB draft. Bruce went to the Cincinnati Reds with the 12th overall pick in the 2005 draft. The Indians took Lindor with the eighth overall pick in 2011.

Both lived up to skyhigh expectations and progressed quickly through the minor leagues.

Bruce was 54 days past his 21st birthday when he made his big-league debut with the Reds on May 27, 2008. He has been one of the most consistent power hitters in nine-plus seasons since then, batting .249 with 275 home runs and 832 RBI.

Lindor was 212 days past his 21st birthday when he joined the Indians on June 14, 2015. In two-plus seasons with the Indians, he’s batting .295 with 57 home runs and 210 RBI.

During his eight-plus seasons with Cincinnati, Bruce earned National League All-Star honors in 2011, 2012 and 2016.

Lindor was an American-League All-Star in 2016 and 2017.

There’s another shared element in their baseball histories: The teams they are on tend to win.

Bruce was a big-time performer for Cincinnati teams that went to the playoffs in 2010, 2012 and 2013. The Indians are 30-9 since Bruce joined the lineup on Aug. 11.

Lindor acquitted himself well in last season’s playoff push to the World Series, batting .310 with two home runs and six RBI in 15 games. The Indians are 269-171 overall since Lindor made his bigleague debut.
