Federal immigration laws must be obeyed
Although we certainly appreciate Monica Irelan, Painesville city manager, trying to “add some light to all the heat” on the national debate on immigration policy, we believe that her community task force is extremely biased in favor of illegal immigrants; and therefore, does not represent all of residents of Painesville.
In addition, we believe anyone who is a proponent of open borders is missing the basic point.
We are not against legal immigration.
However, entering the United States without complying with our federal immigration laws is against the law. It is not debatable!
Those who condone the entry of illegal immigrants into our country are in violation of Title 8, Section 1324 of the U.S. Immigration law — Bringing in and harboring certain aliens. According to Section (a) (iii):
“Knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation …. shall be punished as provided in sub paragraph (B).”
If found guilty of this federal crime, the person may be subject to fines and imprisonment of up to 20 years.
All we need are federal prosecutors who believe in complying with all of our laws, but is appears that political correctness is impacting their decisions.
We have heard from advocates of open borders about how those who support our nation’s laws are racists, xenophobes, white supremacists, bigots and other unprintable names.
If they are all so worried about illegal immigrants, why do they not provide, at their expense, a free health care clinic, free English lessons, free housing, free education, and free food, rather than placing that burden on an already overtaxed citizenry?
We are going to start pricing seniors living on fixed incomes out of their homes because of increased real estate taxes.
Call us all the names you wish, but one Lake County resident has already been killed by an undocumented immigrant. Let us not sacrifice any more of our citizens at the altar of political correctness.
No Borders=No Sovereignty=No County.
