Munson Township voters eligible to cast ballots in the Nov. 7 General Election will decide whether to renew a 0.75-mill levy for streets, roads and bridges, the Geauga County Elections Board reports.

Issue 19 is a renewal levy meant to last five years. It would commence in 2018 and be first due in calendar year 2019, according to the board’s certified issues list.

If passed, the levy would cost the owner of $100,000 in property valuation $22.88, the Geauga County Auditor’s office reports in its Levies that Impact Your Taxes resource.

The auditor’s office uses the $100,000 property value standard as a representation of tax liability because it’s impractical for officials to calculate it for each individual property

owner, the auditor’s office explains in its pamphlet.

“The numbers presented in this brochure reflect the estimated levy costs per year to the owner of a single family, owner occupied home with a market value of $100,000,” the brochure reads. “Since we are unable to create this document for each individual homeowner, this presentation is done so that each resident can make an easy calculation based on their knowledge of the market value of their house and property.”

The brochure goes on to explain that residents seeking more information about specific properties may find it on the auditor’s web site via its REALink property information system.

According to the Levies that Impact Your Taxes brochure, Issue 19 would not increase residents’ taxes and is expected to produce an annual yield of $170,709 in 2018.

Munson Township voters approved a similar issue in the Nov. 6, 2012, General Election by a margin of 63.13 percent to 36.87 percent, elections officials report.

As of its last count, the Geauga County Elections Board reports there are 5,061 registered voters among Munson Township’s six precincts.
