Rollover crash deadly for Painesvill­e man

A Painesvill­e man died after a single vehicle crash on the Route 2 east exit ramp to Route 44 south.

A Painesvill­e man died after a single vehicle crash on the Route 2 east exit ramp to Route 44 south Sept. 24.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the department responded to the scene of the crash at 4:02 p.m.

As deputies arrived, they saw a Tri-County Ambulance Service Rescue Squad on the scene with two paramedics treating injured victims of the crash. The Painesvill­e Township Fire Department was also at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said an accident investigat­ion revealed that a gray 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was being driven by 59-yearold Robert McGann of Huron (who was residing in Painesvill­e) and was traveling from Route 2 toward Route 44. As the vehicle exSUV ited Route 2 east and travSUV eled on the on/off ramp, the traveled off the left side of the ramp briefly before re-entering the ramp and crossing the right shoulder of the ramp.

The SUV then overturned completely before coming to a rest upright, facing north across the ramp.

The lone passenger, Michael P. Corrigan, 57, of Painesvill­e, was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and was thrown about 30 to 35 feet from the vehicle’s location of final rest.

Both men involved in the crash were transporte­d to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.

McGann was subsequent­ly taken to MetroHealt­h Medical Center in Cleveland. The Sheriff’s Office said Corrigan was pronounced dead at TriPoint.

The crash remains under investigat­ion, but alcohol is believed to be a factor, the Sheriff’s Office stated.
