Find expert pumpkin carving help at Corks Wine Bar

Transform your Halloween pumpkin into a trick-or-treat-worthy Jack-OLantern with carving guidance and assistance from expert David Barresi Oct. 28 at Corks Wine Bar, 4084 Erie St., Willoughby.

The bar’s side room will be given over to pumpkin fun, and kids are welcome starting at 6 p.m. The $30 admission includes a pumpkin to carve, an alcoholic beverage for adults and snacks for the kids. Families may pay one admission and buy food and beverages a la carte.

Puerto Rico relief

Tri-C students and staff will join culinary graduate Magdalis Galarza to host a dinner Oct. 28 benefittin­g Galarza’s family, which lost everything when Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico last month.

The “Viva Puerto Rico” dinner, a four-course meal created by Galarza in honor of her homeland, includes roast pork (pernil), fried plantains (tostones), salt cod (bacalao), coconut panna cotta (tembleque) and other Latin American dishes. A cash bar will be available.

Galarza enrolled at Tri-C in 2013, moving to Cleveland to pursue a career in culinary arts. She graduated magna cum laude in 2015 and now works at the acclaimed Table 45 restaurant at the InterConti­nental Hotel Cleveland.

The dinner takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the college’s Hospitalit­y Management Center, 180 Euclid Ave., on Cleveland’s Public Square. Tickets, at $50, include parking at ProPark’s Cleveland Public Square Garage, 2047 Ontario St. Tickets: tri-c. edu/vivapuerto­rico.

Turkey Trot

Tastes of Thanksgivi­ng will be paired with wines of the Grand River Valley from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 4. Participat­ing in the annual Turkey Trot will be Debonné Vineyards, Ferrante Winery and Ristorante, Grand River Cellars Winery and Restaurant, Laurello Vineyards and St. Joseph Vineyards.

Just a few minutes drive from one another, they can be visited in any order, and maps will be available at each winery. Wine samples, hearty appetizers and recipes are included in the $5 charge at each. Bring a canned food item to each winery and get $1 off.
