Browns’ London hotel evacuated

-

The Browns evacuated their London hotel for an hour Saturday morning because of a gas leak in the resort’s kitchen.

The team says players, coaches and other personnel were awakened by fire alarms in the Pennyhill Park Resort and Spa at 5:45 a.m. They gathered in their temporary locker room area in the hotel parking lot before returning.

The disruption cost the players sleep, and their schedule for Saturday was pushed back two hours. The team arrived in England on Friday and some players, including rookie starting quarterback DeShone Kizer, said they got little sleep on the flight.

ASTROS’ GURRIEL BANNED FIVE GAMES IN 2018 » Yuli Gurriel of the Astros was suspended Saturday for the first five games of next season for making a racist gesture at Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish during the World Series.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the penalty Saturday, a day after Gurriel’s actions during Game 3.

Manfred acknowledged some people believed Gurriel should have served an immediate ban.

“I wanted the burden of this discipline to fall primarily on the wrongdoer,” he said. “I was impressed in my conversation with Yu Darvish by his desire to move forward, and I felt that moving the suspension to the beginning of the season would help in that regard.”

The 33-year-old Gurriel will lose $322,581 of his $12 million salary next year, which the Astros will donate to charitable causes. The first baseman will be required to undergo sensitivity training during the offseason.

Gurriel pulled on the corners of his eyes after homering off Darvish during Houston’s 5-3 win in Game 3 on Friday night. He also used a derogatory Spanish term in reference to Darvish.

Carmelo Anthony, Josh Huestis, and Steven Adams all posted photos of the plane shortly after it landed around 12:45 a.m.

Anthony wrote on Instagram, “What possibly could we have hit in the SKY at this time of night? Everyone is Safe, Though.”

Adams’ Twitter post said, “We had a rough flight to say the least.”

Huestis wrote on Twitter, “I guess we hit something? 30,000 feet up...”

Delta Air Lines spokeswoman Elizabeth Wolf said maintenance was evaluating the situation and that the damage was likely caused by a collision with a bird.
