Area schools recognized for Positive Behavioral Interventions
Over a dozen schools in Lake and Geauga counties are being recognized for their successful implementation of Ohio Positive Behavioral Inventions and Supports.
These schools will be honored at the 2017 Ohio Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Showcase on Nov. 30.
According to The State Support Team Region 4, the award winners demonstrated extraordinary leadership of implementation efforts, creative problem solving and innovative strategies.
All five Painesville Schools received top honors this year. Thomas W. Harvey High School received the Gold Award, which is the highest accomplishment that a school can achieve in PBIS. Harvey High also earned the 2016 PBIS GOLD Award. In Painesville, Maple Elementary and Heritage Middle received Bronze awards and Elm Street Elementary and Chestnut Elementary received silver.
“Again, congratulations to all the award-winning schools, Principals and PBIS Coaches,” Painesville Schools Director of Communications Eloy Pacheco said in a news release.
Other local PBIS showcase recipients include:
• Gold Award — Fairport Schools’ McKinley Elementary; Geauga County ESC Gaitway High School
• Silver Award — Lake County ESC’s The Lake Academy; Newbury Schools’ Newbury Elementary
• Bronze Award — Berkshire Schools’ Burton Elementary; Cardinal Schools’ Cardinal Middle School and Cardinal Intermediate School; Fairport Schools’ Harding Middle/High School; Kirtland Schools’ Kirtland Elementary School; Lake County ESC Lead Program; Willoughby-Eastlake Schools’ Edison Elementary and Grant Elementary.
A total of 108 Ohio schools are being recognized for their success in implementing PBIS, according to the Ohio Department of Education. PBIS is a school-wide framework shown to improve student behavior, academic achievement, and overall school climate.
