The Cottage of the Christ Child Society, known as the Clothing Cottage, is saying goodbye to its current site at 1509 Mentor Ave. in Painesville Township and is setting out to find a new location.

The board decided to seek a more suitable and affordable property.

“We know we are moving, we just don’t know where yet,” said President Susan Hetzer.

A search committee has been formed, and Hetzer said that committee is exploring numerous properties.

The Cottage has been located within the Painesville Commons Shopping Center for five years.

Hetzer said they hope to be moved by January.

In the meantime, the Clothing Cottage is hosting a store-wide moving sale starting Nov. 1. Everything will be 50 percent off.

Gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing can be purchased at the Clothing Cottage. Accessories and shoes are also sold. The Cottage is operated by the Christ Child Society of the Western Reserve, one of a national network of chapters whose mission is to serve children in Lake County.

All proceeds from the Cottage are used to fund charitable operations of the Christ Child Society.

“This provides us our income to serve the children that come to us,” she said.

With the motto, “nothing is ever too much to do for a child,” the Christ Child Society offers many programs including eye screenings at area preschools; clothing for children in need; layettes for new mothers; scholarships and camperships for youth and tutoring for schoolaged students.

“Our main focus as a chapter are our layettes, so that newborn mothers who are in need through either socials service agency or the hospital upon request they get a layette,” she said.

“We also do bereavement layettes for parents who had a baby that passed away. Many of those parents bury their child in that layette.”

While this chapter holds many fundraisers, the Clothing Cottage is the largest funding source, Hetzer said.

The Cottage is set to temporarily close Nov. 25. It is accepting clothing donations up until its last day.

Monetary gifts can also be mailed to PO Box 1852, Mentor, 44061.

The Clothing Cottage is opened from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays to Saturdays.
