Thanksgiving dinners planned for communities

The following are some of the community dinners planned for the Thanksgiving holiday in The News-Herald’s coverage area.
• Mentor United Methodist Church will host the 27th annual community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 23 at 8600 Mentor Ave. As in previous years there will be a complete traditional Thanksgiving dinner served.
Everyone is invited to attend, and the meal is free of charge. Transportation for those who need it, and delivered meals to those who are shut-ins are available. Transportation and delivery area is limited to Lake County. Call by Nov. 20 to make the delivery and pick up list.
Names and phone numbers of those needing a meal delivered or a ride may be left with the church at 440-255-3496 during daytime hours or leave a message during evening hours and on weekends.
Reservations are not needed to attend the meal at the church. Last year over 1,000 meals were served.
• The Lake County YMCA will host the fifth annual free community Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 3 p.m., Nov. 23, at the West End Branch, 37100 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby.
No registration is necessary to attend.

• Willow Praise Church is getting ready to serve the community with their annual free Thanksgiving meal open to anyone who wants a meal.
With a “no-strings, nopressure approach,” they have served over 5,000 meals on Thanksgiving Day, according to a news release. Laura Pistoor, the Thanksgiving outreach coordinator, said this year they anticipate serving 600 meals at the church, 32901 Vine St. in Willowick.
Not only are home cooked meals prepared and served in the church, but they also deliver to shut-ins as well as the local police and fire departments working the holiday.
Those who would like to receive a free Thanksgiving meal or volunteer or contribute can contact Willow Praise Church at 440-944-5683.
• Hook and Hoof Restaurant of Willoughby will partner with Immaculate Conception Church to provide a traditional, “home-cooked” Thanksgiving meal, Nov. 23, at Immaculate Conception Church, in St. Joseph Hall, 37940 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby.
Doors will open at 2 p.m. and dinner will be served at 2:30. The meal is free.
Reservations will be accepted until Nov. 22. Call Immaculate Conception at 440-942-4500 or Hook and Hoof Restaurant at 440-571-5312.
• St. Anselm Church will hold its annual free Thanksgiving Dinner, noon to 3 p.m., Nov. 23, in Kelly Hall, located on the church grounds, 13013 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. The dinner is served buffet style with all the traditional items.
