Ohio Board of Education honors area schools

Willoughby-Eastlake’s School of Innovation is one of four schools throughout the state to receive the All A Award.

Willoughby-Eastlake’s School of Innovation, located at 32500 Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills, is one of four schools throughout the state to receive the All A Award.

The Ohio Board of Education on Nov. 14 recognized schools around the state for various awards, based on the schools’ report cards.

To qualify for the All A Award, schools must receive A’s on all of its applicable report card measures.

“Beginning in the 20172018 school year, the state Board of Education will recognize any school or district the earns an A on its report card overall component score,” a state Board of Education news release said.

across the state awarded with the Momentum Award for exceeding expectatio­ns in student growth, six of them are in Lake County and one in Geauga.

To qualify for the Momentum Award, a school or district must receive straight A’s on all ValueAdded measures on its report card and the school must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which include gifted, lowest 20 percent in achievemen­t and students with disabiliti­es, according to the news release.

The Lake County schools earning the Momentum Award are: Eastlake Middle School, Hopkins Elementary School in Mentor, Perry Middle School, Willoughby Middle School, Willowick Middle School and Bellflower Elementary School in Mentor. In Geauga County, Kenston High School in Bainbridge Township received the award.

“These districts and schools are doing a wonderful job providing students with the tools to succeed — and their students are rising to the challenge,” said state Board of Education President Tess Elshoff. “The state Board of Education is proud to recognize these students, teachers, administra­tors and parents for their accomplish­ments.”
