Trial date set for man accused of shooting
Timmothy Scott Schmidt of Willoughby Hills, recently pleaded not guilty to a sevencount secret indictment.
A trial date has been scheduled for the man accused of shooting two Willoughby Hills police officers at Classic BMW.
Timmothy Scott Schmidt, 30, of Willoughby Hills, recently pleaded not guilty to a seven-count secret indictment.
He is charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a police officer, four counts of felonious assault of a police officer and resisting arrest stemming from the Sept. 28 shooting.
During a Nov. 28 pretrial before Judge Eugene A. Lucci, a trial date was set for March 19, with April 23 as a backup date.
Schmidt remains in jail on a $5 million cash bond.
Police responded to the SOM Center Road dealership at about 2 p.m. after its management called 911 regarding a “customer problem.”
Willoughby Hills Police Chief Christopher J. Collins previously said the suspect drew a handgun and shot the officers as they talked with him at the scene. Schmidt also was shot during the confrontation.
The officers involved were later identified as Craig Anderson, a 28year veteran, and Cory Planisek, a four-year veteran of the department. Both were released from the hospital in early October.
Schmidt was released from the hospital and arrested Nov. 14.
