Commissioner Daniel P. Troy named CCAO president
Lake County Commissioner Daniel P. Troy will head the County Commissioners Association of Ohio board in 2018.
Troy, a Willowick Democrat, was elected to serve as the next president of the CCAO board Dec. 11 at the organization’s annual winter conference in Columbus.
CCAO’s board is made up of 35 directors who represent counties of varying size throughout the state. The association works to “advance effective county government for Ohio through legislative advocacy, education and training, technical assistance and research, quality enterprise service programs, and greater citizen awareness and understanding of county government,” according to its website.
Troy said that although there are 88 counties in Ohio, they all face the same challenges like the opioid epidemic and aging voter equipment. to goals. This is the second time Troy, will serve as president, previously holding the position in 2008. In 2017, Troy served as 1st vice president of the board. He takes over the mantle of president from Clermont County Commissioner Ed Humphrey.
Troy said he wants to try to develop a better understanding with state officials that county governments not local agencies, but local partners. In court, it’s not Lake County v. …” it’s, “the state of Ohio v. …” Troy said.

Troy said he’s a big believer in compromise. He understands that county governments are not going to everything they want, but wants to see incremental progress made.
Troy has also served on the National Association of Counties since 2005. He currently serves as the vice chair of the Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee.
He said he appreciates the confidence his colleagues have placed on him.
“I’ve been doing this a long time, but I learn every day,” Troy said.
