NFL Network suspends Faulk

- The Associated Press

Hall of Fame player Marshall Faulk and two other NFL Network analysts were suspended after a woman who worked as a wardrobe stylist at the network accused them of sexual misconduct in a lawsuit.

The NFL on Tuesday identified the three as Faulk, Ike Taylor and Heath Evans. They have been “suspended from their duties at NFL Network pending an investigation into these allegations,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

Jami Cantor described several sexually inappropriate encounters with the three retired players and others who have worked for NFL Network, according to court documents first reported by Bloomberg .

The lawsuit and suspensions are the latest in a wave of sexual misconduct allegations against prominent men in politics, entertainment and media.

Former NFL Network executive Eric Weinberger, former NFL Network analysts Donovan McNabb, Eric Davis, and Hall of Famer Warren Sapp, and former NFL Network employee Marc Watts also are named in the lawsuit. MCCOWN DONE FOR THE SEASON » The New York Jets have placed quarterback Josh McCown on injured reserve, officially ending his season after he broke his left hand Dec. 10 at Denver.

Coach Todd Bowles announced Monday that McCown will need season-ending surgery, so the move Tuesday was expected.

The Jets promoted running back Akeem Judd from the practice squad to replace McCown on the active roster. They also signed running back Jahad Thomas and quarterback Joel Stave to the practice squad. Offensive lineman Geoff Gray terminated his practice squad contract to sign elsewhere.

McCown was injured in the third quarter of the Jets’ 23-0 loss to the Broncos. Bryce Petty will take over as New York’s starting quarterback, beginning Sunday at New Orleans.

The 38-year-old McCown had the best season of his career, setting individual highs with 2,926 yards passing and 18 touchdown throws.

YANKEES TRADE HEADLEY » The New York Yankees made a rare payroll dump, creating flexibility to add starting pitching.

Third baseman Chase Headley and pitcher Bryan Mitchell were dealt to San Diego on Tuesday for 28-year-old outfielder Jabari Blash, who made his big league debut in 2016 and has played in 99 games in the majors over two seasons.

Headley’s $13 million salary was assumed by the Padres, and the Yankees agreed to give San Diego $500,000 on Jan. 10 to defray part of Headley’s $1 million assignment bonus.

A day after finalizing their acquisition of NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton from Miami, the Yankees cut payroll to about $167 million for luxury tax purposes. Owner Hal Steinbrenner is intent on getting under the $197 million tax threshold next year, and New York still may attempt to re-sign left-hander CC Sabathia or trade for another starting pitcher such as Detroit righthander Michael Fulmer.
