Marian E. Zalar, 88, a lifelong resident of the Huntsburg Twp. area, died on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at her home in Huntsburg Twp., surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Painesvill­e, on April 21, 1929, to Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Mausser) Janek, and graduated from Chardon High School, Class of 1947.

Marian married Anthony W. Zalar in the Church of St. Mary, Chardon, on Nov. 24, 1951. She was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Mary and was considered a “super mom” by her family. She had worked for the Chardon Rubber pany, Geauga Industries and finally as a guide on the bus tours for Anderson Tours. Her hobbies and enjoyments clude volunteeri­ng for Geauga Hospital; cooking and baking (especially her bacon bread); sewing; floral and vegetable gardening, always having plenty to can; and traveling, pecially to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and to Portugal. She was the “Rock” to many in her family and will most definitely be deeply missed, but never forgotten for her great love of God.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Zalar and Marilyn (Gayland) Moore, both of Huntsburg Twp.; son, Tony (Tamara) Zalar of Huntsburg Twp.; nephew, Richard Edelinsky of Hambden Twp.; grandchild­ren, Hilary Zalar, Deana (Tom) Ross, Melanie (Morgan) Rivera, Kristen (Mike) Velaro, and Laura Zalar; three great-grandchild­ren; sister, Hildegard Redmond of Leroy; and brother, Francis Janek of Leroy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her band in 1992; son, Bob Zalar, a grandson, Justin Moore; and siblings, Betty Paul, Joseph “Bud” Janek, Albert Janek, and John Janek.

The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, December 14, 2017, 10 a.m., at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, OH 44024. The Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, December 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Contributi­ons in memory of Marian are suggested to the Church of St. Mary, or the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
