The cause of a Parkman Township fire that displaced a family of 11 that spanned four generations is still undetermined.

Parkman Township Fire Chief Mike Komandt said no one was injured in the Dec. 13 fire, and he noted the fire is believed to be accidental in nature.

The fire department received the call of the fire at 7:40 p.m. in the 1600 block Main Market Road. Sixteen departments assisted Parkman on the snowy scene of the fire in the more than 100-yearold home. Komandt said it took about an hour to get the fire under control.

Komandt said the fire is believed to have originated in the attic. He added most of the damage was contained to the attic and second-floor bedrooms.

The Geauga County Fire Investigation Unit is still investigating, the chief said.

The fire department is collecting donations at its 6299 Main Market Road station. Clothing, hygiene products and non-perishable food items are being accepted.

“There’s a great need, especially so close to the holidays,” Komandt said.

He added that local businesses have stepped up to help so the family’s Christmas is not affected.

Donations are being accepted 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Already a steady stream of donations is pouring in, Komandt said.
