The best gift of all

‘Twas the week before Christmas, when through the workplace,

All the employees were stirring at a frantic pace.

Stockings were hung at each office with care,

Trying to get into a holiday spirit, as the big day was near.

Their children were still in school studying for a final test,

With visions that soon they would also be at home for some rest.

So much to do in so little time before donning a Santa cap,

Not even a minute to catch a short winter’s nap.

And then without notice, there arose such a clatter,

Everyone sprang from their chairs to see what’s the matter.

Away to the boss’s office we flew in a rush,

And arrived to hear the boss ask us to hush.

“It’s about time we changed our ways,” he did exclaim,

“Sadly our company’s backward thinking, you have me to blame.

“You see it starts at the top,

And this madness before the holidays we need to stop,

From now on no working on Christmas Eve, it makes no sense you know.”

As the boss talked, we could not help but gaze at the new falling snow.

Was this a holiday miracle or was this a dream?

The boss is having a change of heart it did seem.

He then shouted, “from now on you are all priority one!

This place is going to be somewhere you’ll love and have fun.

Gone are the old policies and programs that treated you wrong,

We should have seen this all along.

Goodbye probationary period and dumb stuff that has little to do,

With taking care of the customer and all of you.

We are going to be way more flexible with your workday,

So you have more time with family and even play.

We need to loosen up and change the way we work,

Let me know what else would be important to you as a perk.

We are going to listen more and more,

As we are sick and tired of seeing good people go out the door.

With the holidays upon us, it is time to take stock,

Of what is really important and really what makes this company rock.

It’s not our machines or products that are new, Of course, it’s all of you. We’ll show our thanks, through benefits and pay,

And lots more including a splash of bright paint over the walls of gray.

We can give you a gift that is most precious of all,

Way more valuable than anything bought at the mall,

It will make a difference in your daily view,

And will definitely make you feel at times brand new.

America’s companies take more than they need,

Because for too long it was all about greed.

So from our management team, we are proud to state,

That our company is cleaning the slate.

We are giving you the gift of time.

No more worries about working till the 5 o’clock chime.

We woke up and realized that the old ways are out,

Changes that would make Ebenezer Scrooge pout.

Get your work done, and off you go,

Because there’s enough stress to this week as you know.

You have presents to buy and cards to send,

Ribbons to tie and a call to a friend.

So dash away, dash away all,

It’s time for you to go and have a ball.

The season will soon be past,

Let’s all try to make this one last.
