Police seeking suspects in robberies

- Staff report

Willoughby police are looking for two suspects accused of a pair of Lake County robberies Dec. 16.

According to Willoughby police, the Circle K at 36391 Vine St. was robbed at gunpoint around 9 p.m. that night.

Police said two suspects entered the store dressed in dark clothing, hooded sweatshirts and masks. Police responded to the scene, but were unable to locate the suspects after they fled from the store. No store employees were injured during the robbery.

Officers learned that the Rite Aid at 30500 Lake Shore Blvd. in Willowick was robbed by three male suspects shortly before the Circle K robbery. Police believe the suspects were involved in both.

Wickliffe police located a gray 2016 Jeep Cherokee SUV traveling west on Interstate 90 about 9:05 p.m., which matched a similar description to the vehicle used in the Rite Aid robbery.

Officers from Wickliffe attempted to stop the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Cleveland, but called off the attempt after the SUV traveled recklessly at a high rate of speed.

Around 10:30 that night, Cleveland police found the stolen Jeep at the 14021 Saint Clair Ave. Marathon gas station. Three suspects ran from the SUV, but officers were able to apprehend one of the suspect, a 16-year-old Cleveland resident. He was transported back to the Willoughby Police Department for further investigation.

The suspect was charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery and fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 18 in Lake County Juvenile Court.

Willoughby police are still trying to identify the other two suspects as well as a possible driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Burrington at 440953-4210.
