Area swimmers see limited action

A look at a few highlights by area swimmers from the limited slate of meets held during the pre-Christmas week:

• Nathan Herman won 200 IM and 500 freestyle and was on the firstplace 200 medley relay as Hawken won a dual against St. Ignatius. On the girls side, Ella Gilson took 500 free and was on the winning 400 free relay for the Hawks in a dual win over Magnificat.

• Beaumont’s Maria Jones was third in 200 free and 100 butterfly during a tri-meet with Hathaway Brown and Laurel.

• Area individual-event winners in a tri-meet with Chardon, Mayfield and North Royalton were the Hilltopper­s’ Katherine Jerry (50 free) and Sarah Bennett (100 backstroke) and the Wildcats’ Emily Steffey (100 fly) and Gianna Ferrante (100 free and 100 breaststro­ke).

• There are seven duals and tris involving area squads scheduled between Christmas and New Year’s and limited representa­tion at the Cloverleaf Invitation­al and Warrior Relays at the University of Akron. University will make its annual trip to Bloomingto­n South (Ind.) for a dual Dec. 30.

• Area diving coaches are encouraged to submit season-best 11-dive scores for area leaders in order to make the list more representa­tive and complete. Scores can be emailed to CLillstrun­g@News-Herald.com before 8 p.m. Mondays.
