The day after Christmas shopping got off to a slow start at Great Lakes Mall in Mentor.

Kate Miller, marketing director for the mall attributed, the slowness during the early morning on Dec. 26 to possibly the winter weather that hit the Lake County area Christmas Day and into the night.

By early afternoon though, the mall corridors started to get busy as shoppers like Virginia Gonzalez of Painesville were coming out in full force looking for sales and to spend gift cards and cash received by many for Christmas.

“The day after Christmas has traditionally been a busy day for Great Lakes Mall, and this year is no different,” Miller said. “Shoppers continue to roll in to take advantage of great after Christmas deals, grab a bite in the food court and to spend their gift cards.”

Gonzalez, said it was the sales that brought her out shopping and she found some really good bargains such as 75 percent off and buy one ,get one free deals.

“I have three girls who get cash and like to spend money so we come out shopping,” she said.

Chris Brauer of Concord Township was one of the few customers who came out looking for something other than bargains. Brauer spent Christmas with her four grandchildren, and she came out for a massage.

“I came to get myself back in shape with my mobility,” she said.

Jean Pickett of Moreland Hills came out shopping with her two sons, Iain, 9 and Pierce, 13.

“The boys want to spend their Christmas money,” she said while the boys looked at kiosk full of the popular squishy toys that were buy one get one free.
