Sip wine and beer from around world to benefit student programs
Wine and beer from around the world will be tasted along with light appetizers from 7 to 10 p.m. Jan. 20 at the St. John Vianney Father Kline Social Center, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor.
Sommelier Brian Fife, a certified wine specialist from World Wines and Liquor, will direct the evening event. Those registering by Jan. 16 pay $25 per person. The evening costs $30 at the door.
Sponsored by Lake Catholic High School, the tasting event will benefit the Catholic Youth Organization teams.

Student luncheons
The eagerly anticipated five-course Student Cafe Luncheons have resumed at the International Culinary Arts & Sciences Institute, 8700 Mentor Ave., Chester Township.
Planned and presented by the adult senior students in the school’s culinary and pastry arts programs, the two-hour luncheons take place at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays through the spring.
Many groups of friends reserve these luncheons, sometimes bringing wine to share with the meal.
Those who dine are asked to critique aspects of the meal to assist in grading the students.
Reservations, which are pre-paid and non-refundable, are $30 per person.

Make mozzarella
Learn to make fresh mozzarella in one of the Loretta Paganini School of Cooking’s most popular classes of the year at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at the school, 8613 Mayfield Road, Chester Township.
Bring an apron, a pair of heavy gloves and a container because there will be plenty of finished mozzarella to take home.
The $55, two-hour class will be led by Paganini and a representative from Miceli Cheese.
You’ll make fresh mozzarella from curd, braided and stuffed mozzarella and ricotta cheese.
The menu includes a Caprese salad with tomato, basil and mozzarella; penne primavera with grilled vegetables and mozzarella; chicken, pear and mozzarella salad; and roasted red pepper and prosciuttostuffed mozzarella.
