Local students stand among a distinguished group of students at Baldwin Wallace University that has reached BW’s pinnacle of academic honor society achievement with fall 2017 induction into the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society.

The following students were honored with membership that is achieved by less than 4 percent of the undergraduate student body:

• Haley Brown of Mentor-on-the-Lake, a graduate of Mentor High School majoring in computer science.

• Gabrielle Knauer of Novelty, a graduate of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School majoring in early childhood education.

• Rachel Metcalf of Jefferson, a graduate of Edgewood Senior High School majoring in international studies and political science.

• Gina Mulh of Mentor, a graduate of Mentor High School majoring in instrumental performance.

• Haley Spangler of West Farmington, a graduate of Bristol High School majoring in psychology.

• Makenna Virag of Madison, a graduate of Madison High School majoring in music education.

In order to be considered for induction, students must have earned a minimum of 70 semester hours, with at least 32 semester hours earned at BW. From those meeting the semester hour requirement, the top 100 current student GPAs are eligible for membership.

The society, which was founded at BW in 1948, honors the memory of BW alumnus Dayton C. Miller (1886), who served as a professor of Physics at the Case Institute for many years, conducting notable research into the science of acoustics and assembling a unique collection of flutes, currently held by the Smithsonian.
