The Euclid Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire 5:07 p.m. that day at 1735 Braeburn Park Drive.

The department said the call originated from a residential burglar/fire alarm system while the residents were not at home. Sixteen firefighters from the city as well as four from Wickliffe responded to the fire.

The doors were locked when firefighters responded to the scene. Smoke was intensifying inside and the firefighters forced entry and discovered the flames had spread into the walls, climbing toward the attic threatening to destroy the two-story home.

Three hose lines were needed to extinguish the blaze, the department said, and crews were on scene until about 10 p.m.

The fire was determined to have originated in the basement near the furnace. The preliminary loss estimate for the building and its contents is $60,000.

During the fire, additional calls were received, including a reported overdose at East 222nd Street and a shooting victim on East 200th Street. According to Euclid police, the victim was shot in Cleveland, but was later located in Euclid.
