Crop comments: Gilmour stays at No. 1 after a win against Ursuline. The Lancers’ next three games are at home against St. Peter’s, Padua and Hathaway Brown . ... North remains at No. 2 despite a loss to Eastern Brown, a loaded team. Eastern Brown shot 65 percent in the game. The Rangers are still a very dangerous team . ... Geneva beat West Geauga, with Abby Carter scoring 23. It’s just hard to fathom anyone else in the CVC Chagrin being a threat to Geneva prior to that Feb. 10 rematch with Perry . ... Cornerstone makes a leap ahead of

state-ranked Kirtland. It’s not going to be a popular move, but beating 12-2 Perry and state-ranked Lake Ridge Academy in the same week must count for something . ... Kirtland drops down one slot to No. 5. Probably not a fair drop, considering the Hornets are 16-0 and state-ranked. Teams ahead of them have major quality wins, though. ... Kenston moves up to No. 7. Corenna Maynard is being a fine floor general for the Bombers, who are a different team than they were a year ago . ... Perry slips to No. 7. The Pirates’ only two losses are to No. 3 Geneva and No. 4 Cornerstone. The Pirates will be just fine heading down the stretch — and are undoubtedly looking forward to that rematch with Geneva on Feb. 10 . ... Mentor is only 5-9 but has a chance at redemption this week against Medina and Strongsville, who beat the Cardinals earlier this year . ... Chardon looks like it has started to find its offensive stroke after a rough start. The defense is always there for Coach Harris’ team. When the Toppers put the ball in the hole, look out . ... NDCL supplants Berkshire in the No. 10 spot. They are 10-5 and played Kirtland to a close game this week, closer than anyone else in the CVC Valley has. So we’ll go with the Lions this week.
