Arts experiences planned for winter
Geauga Park District has announced it is offering a series of new arts experiences and workshops during the cold winter.
Meet the Artists will take place Feb. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the West Woods Nature Center. Nature-inspired paintings will be on display by artists Julie Cook of Madison and Hap Howle of Thompson, both of whom will be there.
Registration is required at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516 for two painting workshops this season, both on Friday evenings.
Robert Kolcum will lead workshop-goers to paint beautiful woodland sugaring scene onto a sap bucket, 6:30 to 9 p.m., on Feb. 23 at The West Woods Nature Center. A $35 fee includes all materials and refreshments. Participants must be at least 21 years old and they should plan to dress for a mess with an old shirt or stock.
Jeannie Carder Shimek from Artifacts Gift Studio will instruct as participants paint a set of two drink glasses, which may also be utilized as candleholders, with a “full moon rising” motif on March 30, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Observatory Park’s McCullough Science Center. A $30 fee here includes all materials and refreshments, including non-alcoholic beverages, but participants may also bring their beverage of choice. Participants must be at least 15 years old.
Finally, Maple Town Tune Traders continue February and March for area singers, musicians and receptive audience members every last Thursday of the month , 7 to 10 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center. All musical genres, instruments and levels are welcome to sign up for short performances at the evening’s start, followed by a jam session.
The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. The McCullough Science Center is at 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township.
